Pep Guardiola is growing frustrated with Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy, according to The Telegraph.

The newspaper claim that the Man City boss and his staff have been unimpressed with the 24-year-old left back’s attitude at times, notably when he turned up three hours late for treatment on an injury in September.

The Telegraph report that Guardiola has also been frustrated by Mendy’s injury woes as two serious knee injuries have thwarted his progress at the club.

It is believed that due to Guardiola’s concerns about the player, he is searching for a new left-back to sign and Leicester City’s Ben Chilwell is a prime target.

OPINION

It’s no surprise that Guardiola is frustrated with Mendy as his time at the club has been a bit disappointing. It isn’t really the player’s fault for why his time at Man City hasn’t gone to plan, as it’s not like he has any control on whether he gets injured. Yet with the 24-year-old suffering two serious injuries in a relatively short space of time, it’s no wonder Guardiola wants a replacement to arrive. Mendy is clearly talented but Man City can’t wait around forever and will have doubts about whether an injury will strike again, so will want top-quality cover for him at the very least.  Man City are constantly competing in many competitions at the same time so it makes sense that a player being injured for long periods of time, would cause Guardiola sleepless nights. However it is a little concerning that the attitude of the £90k-a-week player (Source: Spotrac) is proving a problem as well, as the Man City boss won’t keep anyone with a problem of that nature. While Mendy does seem like a great character at the club if he starts pushing his luck too much, his bags will be packed for him.
