Everton have confirmed that exciting young forward Anthony Gordon has penned a new long term deal with the club in what is his first professional contract at Goodison Park.

The Toffees revealed via their academy’s official Twitter account as well as the club’s website that the 18-year-old had agreed terms which will keep him committed on Merseyside until 2023 and it comes a day after fellow youngster Kyle John had also signed a new deal.

A versatile forward, who can operate in pretty much any role among the attacking line, he has one senior appearance to his name, coming last season as a substitute in the Europa League

Opinion

After getting his first taste of senior game time last season, Gordon might be a little disappointed he has not been given any more action under Marco Silva, but the length of this deal shows that he is hugely rated by the club. They obviously do not want him going anywhere any time soon and it should only be a matter of time before he makes his way back into the first team plans. Despite only being 18, he is a regular for the under-21 and under-23 side and that sort of experience will do him the world of good as he tries to take the next step up in terms of his career. The Toffees love their homegrown stars and with Kyle John having also penned a professional contract at Goodison Park it seems as though the next generation are being prepared to become viable options to support the first team.
