Calvert-Lewin proving undroppable

Last Saturday was not a good day to be an Everton fan. To see your team surrender their 2-0 lead in the way that they did must have been disappointing to say the least.

One area that has been their downfall this season has been their attack, well, their lack of it shall we say. Boss Marco Silva has not had much to work with in this department this season and it was puzzling not to see them swoop for a forward in the January transfer market.

However, there has been one player who has saved the manager’s skins a few times this term. That is Dominic Calvert-Lewin, a player who has had to make up for the failings of a few of his teammates.

The 21-year-old has scored eight goals this season and he has arguably been the best option they have had up front this season – Cenk Tosun has hardly been lighting the Premier League up with his glorious form, has he?

This is why the young ace is proving himself to be the team’s most undroppable player. The impact he has made has been excellent, and it is hard to envision any other player taking his place leading the line. Without him, Everton would be far worse off than they are now.

He was the shining light compared to the rest of his teammates on Saturday. The game showcased just how well the centre-forward is developing, and that can only be good news for Marco Silva, especially at the moment.

The frontman took his goal that afternoon delightfully with a slick header, showing that he is clearly head and shoulders above everyone else right now.

Silva must now recognise that the dazzler is their best option up front, and that should not change for the rest of the season. To do so would surely result in Everton being less of a threat up front, and destine them to drop quite a few places in the league.
