Everton have tabled a £21.6million deal (€25million) to seal the signing of Andre Gomes from Barcelona as they look to hold off European giants Inter Milan to his signing, according to Sport.

The Spanish publication claim on their website that the Toffees want to close out a deal as soon as possible after the Portuguese international’s impressive loan spell at Goodison Park, with fears that rival interest could scupper their plans to turn his temporary spell permanent.

It is stated that Inter have joined the race for the 29-cap international midfielder but cannot yet enter negotiations, which is why Everton are so keen to get Barcelona to agree to their terms.

Opinion

Gomes has been one of the star performers for Everton this season and so it should come as no surprise that they are desperate to keep him on board for the long-term future. Unfortunately it should also not shock anyone to see that more and more clubs are becoming interested in the Portuguese star after his fine displays on Merseyside. What Everton have to hope is that Barcelona are happy with the terms of their deal and that Gomes does no have his head turned by all the speculation regarding his future. If Inter are interested, who else could pose a threat to the Toffees’ hopes? If Champions League sides start getting involved in this particular transfer battle, then can Marco Silva’s men really hope to keep him at Goodison? No wonder they want this deal to be sorted out as soon as possible – the longer it goes on, the more chance they have of being bitterly disappointed.
