Adrian Durham slammed Everton manager Marco Silva for getting in referee Lee Mason’s face after the 3-2 defeat to Newcastle United.

The FA confirmed on Monday, via their spokesperson Twitter account, that the Toffees manager’s actions after the loss to the Magpies were found to have breached the rules, and Durham upon hearing the news urged for the book to be thrown at him.

The broadcaster was confused what had gotten Silva so angry and pointed out that the manager should focus on his own performance as he had a mare.

“He was barking at Lee Mason as he left the field, if he thought Lee Mason had a bad game, what did he think of Jordan Pickford and the rest of the Everton players?” said Durham on talkSPORT (Monday March 11th, 18:09).

“What did he think of himself? I mean never mind the referee, you’ve had a mare Marco Silva, he should have a look at himself before he starts doing the referee’s job for him.

“Pickford should have been sent off, what was he saying? You should have sent Pickford off? Man managers honestly, that to me is a manager who has nowhere to go, he knows he’s not doing the job properly and is clutching at straws.

“They go 2-0 up at Newcastle and lose 3-2, and he is clutching at straws, clutching big times, he is in Lee Mason’s face like it’s the referee’s fault.

“And Marco Silva in Lee Mason’s face trying to convince the Everton fans that it’s Lee Mason’s fault, well Everton fans aren’t stupid Marco Silva so as frustrated as it is, he is massively out of order, chuck the book at him.”

OPINION

Durham often goes a little too far with his criticism but he is actually spot-on with his remarks on Silva. The Toffees manager was furiously tearing into Mason after the final-whistle when really he only had himself as well as his players to blame for losing to the Magpies. Silva’s team were 2-0 up in cruise control before completely dropping the ball and seeing Rafa Benitez’s side raise their game to turn the game completely around. The Toffees didn’t overly have too many decisions go against them and if anything they were lucky to have 11 players on the pitch. Pickford clearly made no attempt to get the ball when barging into Magpies forward Salomon Rondon in the first half and should have been shown a red card. Yet for some odd reason, despite spotting the incident, Mason didn’t even book the shot-stopper. With Silva potentially facing a touchline ban, it does seem warranted on this occasion.
