Chelsea midfielder Jorginho enjoyed a fine return to form in his team’s 2-1 win over Fulham on Sunday. The Italy international has come under fire in recent months – perhaps due to him being perceived as much-maligned Maurizio Sarri’s teacher’s pet – but he was absolutely fantastic against the Cottagers. He controlled the game, showing why Sarri was so keen to bring him in last summer, and got himself on the scoresheet with a tremendous finish. The former Napoli man is often accused of bringing little to matches, seemingly content to spray the ball around backwards and sideways. That was proved to be a false narrative at Craven Cottage, though. His passing was dynamic and he set in motion almost all of Chelsea’s most dangerous attacks. Anyone who watched him play in Serie A knows that when he’s dialled in he’s as good a central midfielder as there is in Europe. We haven’t seen that enough in a Chelsea shirt, but perhaps this performance was the start of a Jorginho renaissance in West London.
