Patrick Bamford had ice strapped to his left leg by Leeds United’s medics after he was substituted due to injury in Saturday’s 1-0 win at Bristol City, according to Phil Hay.

The striker sustained a knee injury when he opened the scoring for the visitors after just nine minutes at Ashton Gate when he converted Luke Ayling’s knockdown from close range.

Bamford played on through the pain barrier until he was replaced after 57 minutes by Stuart Dallas and, as reported by Yorkshire Evening Post correspondent Hay, then underwent immediate treatment with the medical staff.

OPINION

Leeds fans will be worried sick that Bamford has suffered yet another knee injury. While his latest problem was the result of a knock rather than the more serious ligament problems he suffered earlier in the season – that each sidelined him for lengthy periods – the Whites faithful will be sweating while they await an update. Bamford is likely to undergo tests when Leeds return home, possibly tomorrow, and that should show the seriousness of the injury. With Kemar Roofe out until at least the start of next month with a knee injury of his own, United can ill afford to lose Bamford with their automatic promotion hopes on the line. He has scored four goals in his last four matches and demonstrated exactly why United shelled out £7million to sign him from Middlesbrough last summer. The results of the tests on his knee could mean the difference between automatic promotion or not.
