Alex Scott heaped praise on West Ham attacker Javier Hernandez for his performance in the 4-3 win over Huddersfield Town.

The BBC pundit shared that the 30-year-old Hammers forward brought a different energy upon coming off the bench during the match and was willing to work on scraps.

Scott added that Hernandez was one player that Huddersfield shouldn’t have left unmarked in the box before going on to highlight that’s exactly what they did.

“It was like okay we’ll go 3-1 down and start playing, but Hernandez brought a different energy to West Ham as he led the line and gave them a different dynamic,” said Scott on BBC One’s Match of the Day (22:30, Saturday March 16th).

“He just wants to make something, just to get on the end of anything, here it’s the reaction to the action like ‘What am I going to do next?’ I’m going to get into the box just in case and work on scraps.

“His energy was just continuous throughout upon coming on and one man you don’t want to leave unmarked in the box is Hernandez.”

OPINION

Scott is in awe of Hernandez following his display and who can blame her? The 30-year-old was at his best on Saturday as he was lethal in front of goal and just continually tried to make things happen. Manuel Pellegrini’s side were surprisingly behind and struggling against the Terriers on Saturday but once Hernandez and Samir Nasri entered the game that all changed. Hernandez was rewarded for his efforts as he scored twice to help his side win. Sometimes this season the experienced forward has given up way too often and not always chased balls down, but that wasn’t the case on Saturday. Given that Hernandez showed he is able to constantly run and force things to happen, Hammers supporters will want to see this version of him in the games that remain this season. While the forward wowed in his latest display, given that he has only scored 16 goals in 58 outings for the London club, his Hammers career still has a huge question mark over it.
