Sky Sports pundit Clinton Morrison has blasted West Brom for sacking Darren Moore as he suggests the club did not want to give him the job in the first place.

The Baggies got rid of their former manager over the weekend after a draw with basement club Ipswich Town at the Hawthorns, the midlands outfit sitting fourth in the table as they look set for a shot at promotion via the play offs.

Speaking of the sacking, Morrison revealed his anger at the decision, insisting that he should be proud of the job he did and cast serious doubts over the board’s true intentions.

He told Sky Sports’ Soccer Special (13/03, 19:42): “It’s a strange decision, it don’t sit right with me to be fair. I don’t know what’s going on with the hierarchy, I think Darren Moore did a terrific job – he was so close to nearly keeping them in the Premier League.

“He did ever so well, the players responded to him, the fans responded to him and I don’t think they wanted to give him the job. I think it was fan pressure, more pundits and people saying give him the job.

“I know it was only one win in nine but losing Harvey Barnes was a massive blow, he didn’t really bring in a replacement for him but it’s just not right.”

Opinion

Morrison might have a point about the Baggies board not wanting Moore over the summer but after his side’s performances in the latter stages of the Premier League season there would have been riots had he not been handed the job. He did a magnificent job for someone lacking in experience and you can be sure that there will be a number of other clubs sniffing around when they need a new manager themselves. There is definitely a clear divide over Moore’s sacking and there will be plenty of fans, both of the Baggies and from other clubs, who will share Morrison’s thoughts on his exit from the club. Still, the decision has been made and it is now up to the board to appoint someone they feel can carry out their expectations. There will be nowhere to hide for them should Moore’s replacement fail after choosing to swing the axe on the former Hawthorns favourite.
