Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye has emerged as a target for Olympique Lyonnais ahead of the summer transfer window, according to Buzz Sport.

The French news outlet has claimed that the Ligue 1 club are considering signing Gueye, 29, in the coming months, and that if the Toffees did sell him, they would hope for at least £17million to £21 million (20-25 million euros).

The report adds that the £70,000-a-week [Spotrac] star’s future does not look certain at Everton, and that the club are willing to listen to offers for him after Paris Saint-Germain attempted to sign him in January.

Good move for Everton?

Many fans would say absolutely not, but then some may say that they would not be too fussed about him leaving. There is no doubting his ability in the slightest, and it is clear that he makes an impact on the Toffees’ midfield. However, would it really be that bad if they sold him? The funds would allow them to scour the market themselves, which is not the worst scenario – after all, Gueye is easily replacable.

Likely to happen?

Everton stood firm to offers from PSG in January, so it would not be a surprise that they would do the same if Lyon – who recently crashed out of the Champions League – came in with a bid. They obviously want to keep Gueye and who can blame them? However, it remains to be seen whether they would be tempted if Lyon came in with an irresistable offer. There is only so long that they can keep rejecting these clubs, so do not be shocked if they accepted a bid. This one is rather hard to judge, so watch this space.
