Lennon must get behind Edouard

Celtic couldn’t have left it much later to sneak a win over Dundee on Sunday.

The Hoops had to rely on a 96th minute winner from Odsonne Edouard to take the three points, and the Frenchman’s strike came with their 23rd shot of the match.

After a 0-0 draw against Aberdeen, that would have been two shut outs in front of goal in successive matches – an almost unthinkable prospect for a side with the formidable attacking force of Celtic.

The main issue the Bhoys are having is finding a striker who can do the job on weekly basis, but the obvious option is right in front of the interim boss.

Edouard has been in and out of the side recently, but he must be given an extended run to prove what he can do, and to ease Celtic’s goalscoring issues.

The striker has hit 18 goals in all competitions this season, and still consistently finds himself displaced by Oliver Burke in the centre of the attack.

Burke is far from a natural finisher, and after scoring twice on his Scottish Premiership debut, has hit just two goals in his nine league appearances since.

What the Hoops really need is a focal point, a physical, bustling handful who can read the game well and pounce on the slightest whiff of a chance.

Edouard is the closest thing they have to a player like that right now, and the sooner that Lennon recognises it and gives him a sustained opportunity to prove himself, the better.
