Things haven’t been working out for Leeds former midfielder dynamo Samu Saiz after his loan move to Spain. Saiz left in a shock move ahead of the winter transfer window, eventually making a deal with Getafe until the summer official. However, there was no obligation for Getafe to take up the £6million option to make the transfer permanent in the summer – and it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen now.
He hasn’t scored or provided an assist, only started two games and, after being benched for the four prior games, Saiz was dropped from the Getafe squad entirely for the game at the weekend against Valencia.
That led one Leeds fan to say that he’s a good talent with a “terrible attitude” while another said they could kiss goodbye to the £6million fee for him.
That was always going to be the risk without the obligation to buy being written into the deal and that’s starting to look like a really big mistake from the Leeds board now. They would have been much better off selling Saiz in the winter and spending the money on Daniel James – who’s already looking like he’s worth more than the money Swansea wanted for him in January.
If Leeds do get promoted they’re going to need all the money they can get and this could be £6million that Leeds can now kiss goodbye to – although one fan said he would take Saiz back in a heartbeat. Marcelo Bielsa might not feel the same way.
