OPINION

It has been announced by the EFL that David Coote will be the referee for Leeds United’s clash against Sheffield United at Elland Road on Saturday, and understandably, it has led to a lot of chatter by some Leeds fans on Twitter. Coote has not refereed a Leeds game this season, but was responsible for sending Liam Cooper off in the game against Millwall at Elland Road last term. It seems that some Whites supporters are not happy with the appointment because Coote is seen as a “card happy” referee, while suggesting that a more established Premier League ref would be a better choice for such a high-stakes Yorkshire derby in the second-tier. If Leeds win this game then they can move five points clear of third place in the hunt for automatic promotion. Neither side will want any controversy by the man in the middle, but given his record and how high emotions are bound to run on Saturday, Coote is bound to brandish a lot of yellow cards, and maybe a red.
