OPINION
It has been announced by the EFL that David Coote will be the referee for Leeds United’s clash against Sheffield United at Elland Road on Saturday, and understandably, it has led to a lot of chatter by some Leeds fans on Twitter. Coote has not refereed a Leeds game this season, but was responsible for sending Liam Cooper off in the game against Millwall at Elland Road last term. It seems that some Whites supporters are not happy with the appointment because Coote is seen as a “card happy” referee, while suggesting that a more established Premier League ref would be a better choice for such a high-stakes Yorkshire derby in the second-tier. If Leeds win this game then they can move five points clear of third place in the hunt for automatic promotion. Neither side will want any controversy by the man in the middle, but given his record and how high emotions are bound to run on Saturday, Coote is bound to brandish a lot of yellow cards, and maybe a red.

Have to say he was bloody horrendous reffing the Millwall game, massively out of his depth. Think he also sent Berardi off in the same game?

It was Coops he sent off just before half time but yeah, he lost control in that one and this has the potential to be even more fiery…. esp the way Pontus is already bigging it up!!!!! #lufc

Probably not, he's just card happy, something like an average of 3.6 yellows per game. In the 9 games of ours he's referred we've won 4 Drawn 2 and lost 3.

Looking at the PL and FA Cup fixtures, arguably this is the biggest game of the season so should command the best (I use that word lightly) ref. Michael Oliver, Mike Dean or Jon Moss (even though there’s a conflict of interest there)

Could have picked someone better for such a big game
