Leeds fans weren’t expecting to see talismanic defender Pontus Jansson play against Millwall on Saturday, but the latest fitness report has said he is progressing well and in contention for the game. That will be a big boost for the club, who are battling from third place now for an automatic promotion spot, and Leeds fans are absolutely delighted with the news. The news came from Phil Hay and the Yorkshire Evening Post on Monday and while he’s not a shoe-in, the report was cautiously optimistic after he was initially ruled out for three weeks.

Jansson withdrew from the Swedish squad this past fortnight after hobbling through the final stages of the game against Sheffield United. He hurt and his knee and would have gone off if Marcelo Bielsa hadn’t already made all three changes. As it was, he hobbled on, before being moved up front and then in goal after Kiko Casilla was sent off in the dying minutes. None of that would have done his injury any good, but Jansson is obviously made of stern stuff – and wants to keep his place at the heart of the Leeds defence.

If anyone has typified their never-say-die spirit this season, it’s been Jansson, and fans took to Twitter to celebrate the news and hail their medical head honcho, Rob Price.
