Matt Le Tissier has heaped praise on Moussa Sissoko for the way that the Tottenham midfielder has turned his fortunes around at the club.

The French international has been in wonderful form for Spurs this season, having struggled to settle in north London at first following his move from Newcastle United in 2016.

Speaking on Soccer Saturday (Sky Sports News, March 9th, 12pm), Le Tissier was eager to sing the 29-year-old’s praises.

He said: “That was a heck of a dip in form. We saw him in that Newcastle team when he was a powerful, strong runner from midfield, causing havoc in defences, but he had a real lull in form, and it was a surprise to me that Spurs spent £30 million on him when it did happen.

“It has been a real struggle for him, coming to a side where it was always going to difficult for him to break into on a regular basis.

“He’s maybe had to rely a little bit, first of all, on getting into the side because of injuries, but when he’s got in there, this seasons he’s been incredible.

“The turn around in form is just amazing. You have to give credit to the player, but you also have to give credit to the manager.”

OPINION

Nobody in their right mind would have predicted the turnaround that Moussa Sissoko has undergone at Tottenham. His first two seasons in north London were nothing short of disastrous, and his dip in form looked for all the world as if it would end his career as a top level player. The Frenchman was so poor that he was omitted from France’s World Cup winning squad last summer, and for many, that would have been a massive hit that knocked their confidence massively. For Sissoko, however, it appears to have acted as something of a catalyst for his improvement, and now, he is easily one of the most integral players in Spurs’ squad. The 29-year-old is a force of nature, a driving, intelligent runner who is willing to put in the hard yards in both attack and defence. In a Tottenham side that has looked flimsy far too often in midfield in recent times, he has brought a much needed steel and grit that could be the key to future successes.
