Telegraph journalist Matt Law has said that while Daniel Levy loves his reputation as “football’s toughest negotiator”, he may well get a chance to prove it this summer if Real come knocking for Christian Eriksen.

Writing in his exclusive subscriber email, Law added that Real could be in for a torrid time if they do decide to pick up the phone to him.

Law claims that Real are interested in both Eriksen and Chelsea’s Eden Hazard. Chelsea’s Marina Granovskaia is also known to drive a hard bargain but Law claims that while Hazard would seemingly fetch the higher price, “that will not concern Levy one bit if he is forced to put a price on Eriksen’s head.”

“Levy generally always believes that his property is worth the most,” added Law, “and it would not be a surprise to many people who have dealt with him if he tried to argue that Eriksen should cost more than Hazard.

“Agents are already joking that Real could face the toughest summer of negotiations possible if they choose to pick up the phone to Levy as well as Granovskaia, who they have already contacted.”

OPINION

Having a tough negotiator like Levy at the helm can be a double-edged sword, but it’s never bad to have someone in charge who will always put the interests of the club first. However, it doesn’t always work out for the best. Levy attempted to drive down the price of Jack Grealish over the summer and that backfired. However, when it comes to selling players Tottenham fans should be mighty glad that they’ve got Levy on their end of the phone. They don’t want to see Eriksen leave and he won’t unless Levy gets a price that he thinks is fair. If he got more money that Chelsea did for Hazard we’d be absolutely staggered, but if there’s one man who could pull that off it would be Levy. This summer will be fascinating. Tottenham need new players and maybe, just maybe, selling a couple of prized assets would give Mauricio Pochettino the funds he needs to mount a serious title challenge. Look what happened to Liverpool after they sold Coutinho, and bought Virgil van Dijk and Alisson.
