Rangers could play a blinder in the summer transfer window if they sign Arsenal forward Danny Welbeck.

The Express newspaper has mooted the possibility of Welbeck, 28, heading to Scotland after his contract at the Emirates expires at the end of the season, and Ibrox has been mentioned as a potential destination for the England international.

It is understood that Welbeck has just a couple of months to prove his worth to Unai Emery before he is allowed to leave for free when his deal ends, but that may be difficult for the ex-Manchester United forward as he is currently injured.

Welbeck suffered a broken ankle in Arsenal’s Europa League meeting with Sporting CP back in November and required surgery, so there is a chance that he will not play for the Premier League giants again.

Although he is known for being injury prone, Welbeck would be a worthwhile gamble for Rangers.

At 28-years-of-age, he is at the prime of his career and moving on from a club that has been cured with injuries in the last decade or so could help him get back to full fitness and playing regularly.

Welbeck has a lot of experience as well and that could be invaluable for a team like the Gers.

He has made over 200 Premier League appearances, scoring 42 goals in the process, mainly due to him being played out on the wing by Man United and being used often as a substitute.

In Glasgow though, Welbeck could be the main man up front if Alfredo Morelos leaves in the summer amid speculation about the Colombia international’s future.

Ibrox would surely roar if Rangers were to sign the England international in the summer.

He could prove invaluable in the Gers’ bid to end Celtic’s stranglehold on domestic titles and finally help take silverware to Govan.
