Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Phil Hay has said he thinks Norwich will lift the Championship trophy this season.

That leaves one automatic promotion spot up for grabs but, after Leeds lost to Sheffield United last Saturday, Hay isn’t convinced that Bielsa’s side will make the top two.

Responding to a Leeds fan on his personal Twitter account, Hay said it was “Hard to call. Norwich look like they’ll take the title. Pretty sure Leeds and Sheff Utd will both drop points before the end of the season.”

OPINION

Marcelo Bielsa was quick to point out before and after the Sheffield United match that it wouldn’t be season-defining for Leeds whether they won or lost. However, losing to their rivals for automatic promotion was a huge blow. The defeat puts Leeds one point behind Chris Wilder’s men and leaves their fate out of their hands. A win would have put them five points ahead and kept them in touch with Norwich at the top. As it is, it looks like Norwich are running away with the top spot, leaving just one automatic promotion spot. Leeds fans will be desperate to avoid the lottery of the play-offs, but it’s fair to say that no team would want to play Leeds over two legs, or at Wembley in the final. One thing is certain, there will be more twists and turns in the Championship this season. Leeds just need to keep winning games and hope that their rivals drop points.
