Steven Gerrard has claimed that he will make changes to his team selection ahead of Rangers’ clash against Kilmarnock at Ibrox on Saturday afternoon.

The Light Blues were dumped out of the Scottish Cup on Tuesday after a 2-0 defeat to Aberdeen, leaving them without a win in three games.

Gerrard has settled on a regular starting line-up in the last month or so, only tweaking his selection every now and then. However it seems as though there could be some big changes for this weekend’s action after a dismal week for the Rangers boss.

“There will be changes to the eleven come the weekend. The worst thing as a footballer is to lose a game and to feel like you haven’t done yourself or your supporter’s justice. It is interesting for me at the weekend to see what characters I have,” said Gerrard, as quoted by the Gers’ official Twitter account on Friday.

OPINION

It will be very interesting to see what changes Gerrard makes this weekend because he will be effectively admitted who he is not happy with after the defeat to Aberdeen. Really, he should make 11 changes if he could. No one was any good against the Dons in the Scottish Cup replay, and totally overhauling his team would be justified. However Kilmarnock are a good team and would take advantage of a team being completely disassembled, so it would be wise for Gerrard to make no more than four changes, if possible. One player who needs to start is Andy Halliday, who is a level above Borna Barisic at left-back. The Croatian has hardly impressed since being signed from Osijek last summer and he doesn’t deserve the role of being first-choice left-back. Nikola Katic should also return to the side, whether it be for Joe Worrall or Connor Goldson. Worrall has been in better form lately but Katic and Goldson shared a decent partnership at the start of the season.
