Everton will sign Andre Gomes on a permanent deal from Barcelona in the summer, according to Onda Cero.

The Spanish radio station claims that the Toffees will activate their option to buy Gomes, 25, for an eight-figure fee worth £21.7million.

The Portugal international is currently on a season-long loan at Goodison Park and it seems as though the Merseyside club pre-agreed a fee with Barca for them to sign the midfielder permanently if they are impressed by his performances.

Good move for Everton?

Gomes has been very good for the Toffees since joining them on loan last summer, so signing him for £21.7million makes a lot of sense considering he is not used to English football.

He was injured when he first signed for the Blues, but since he has gained full fitness, he has been a cut above most of the other midfielders at Goodison Park and is a key player for Marco Silva.

The £21.7million fee is not a lot of money when you consider Gomes’ qualities and the fact that he is already settled at Everton.

It is a good decision by Silva and Marcel Brands to trigger this option to buy clause.

Likely to happen?

It seems as though this deal is all but done.

Everton won’t be able to complete the signing until the summer transfer window, but it seems like it’s just going to be a formality at this stage.

If the Toffees do have an option to buy clause included in Gomes’ loan deal then it’s very likely they will go ahead and get him snapped up permanently, especially as it seems like a good fee.
