Real Madrid have beaten Everton to the signing of Eder Militao from Porto after the centre-back was linked with a move to Goodison Park.
Brazilian news outlet UOL reported in January that Everton had been interested in signing the 21-year-old, who was only picked up by Porto last summer but has since proven himself to be one of the best young defenders in European football.
However the Toffees have missed out on signing the Brazil international as it was confirmed by Real Madrid via their official website on Thursday that they have agreed to sign him in the summer on a six-year deal.

UOL reported that Militao was more interested in a move to the Premier League than a move to Spain, but he also had a release clause in his contract worth a staggering £44.6million.
Real’s form has been shocking this season and it seems like they have gone in early to splash the cash on improving the squad, leaving clubs like Everton no hope of signing Militao.
However, even though this is a blow for Everton, it should also be treated as good news.
The Blues’ interest in a player who has eventually been signed by Real Madrid shows that director of football Marcel Brands is looking at the right kind of players who can improve the Merseyside club in the future.
Militao has been sensational at Porto this term, helping them reach the Champions League quarter-finals, making 34 appearances across all competitions.
If it hadn’t been for Real’s desperation, then maybe Everton would have stood a chance of signing the Brazilian in the summer.
Although it might not seem like it just now, the Toffees have a bright future with Brands in charge of their transfers.
He has only been in the job since last summer and he will surely come good in the future, hopefully in the coming summer, after spending a bit more time scouting and planning targets.
Everton surely aren’t far away from finding their very own version of Militao, and that should be enough to give the club’s fans goosebumps.
