OPINION
Ademola Lookman must wonder what he has to do to get a look in at Everton. The young wings consistently impresses when he is given the nod for the Toffees, but week after week he seems to find himself out of the team in favour of Theo Walcott. On the basis of the first half performance the England international put in during the first half of the Merseyside derby, that decision continues to look like madness. The winger, once so exalted for his pace, looks sluggish these days, and without that ability to put the hammer down and tear away from defenders, he offers very little for the Blues. His general standard of play is far beneath where it should be for a player of his reputation and pedigree. It’s hard to remember any point during his year and a bit at Everton that he has looked anywhere near good value for the money they spent to bring him in from Arsenal, and honestly, if things don’t improve soon, he must go down as one of the worst signings in the club’s recent history. If the Toffees were short of options you might understand his continued inclusion, but the fact that Marco Silva has a player like Lookman on the bench and still chooses Walcott is nothing short of baffling.
