Duffy opens door to Celtic move

|

Brighton and Hove Albion defender Shane Duffy has left the door open to making a move to Celtic in the future when probed by fans.

The 25-cap Republic of Ireland international has been a mainstay in the Premier League this season, making 25 appearances and scoring five goals for the Seagulls and at 27-years-old has plenty of years left in his career.

Asked about his future plans, specifically over a move to Celtic Park, in a question and answer on his personal Instagram account, the 6’4″ (source: Transfermarkt) colossus left the door open, writing “Maybe one day” with an emoji of crossed fingers, signalling some hope it will happen.

Opinion

What a signing Duffy would be for the Bhoys. His experience of the Premier League and Championship alone would help take the Hoops to the next level, not to mention his actual quality and talents out on the pitch. He is not in the club’s reach right now and probably will not be for a couple of years, but once he hits 30, as is the case with many players who make the move from England to Scotland, he might be an achievable target for them to snap up. What this shows is that Celtic, despite playing in the Scottish Premiership, are still a big draw to players south of the border and while they cannot offer the same sort of money as English sides, they do give the opportunity to win titles and to play in Europe – something the likes of Duffy and Brighton are not going to be doing any time soon.
