David Wagner will not be the next West Brom manager, according to BBC Sport journalist Simon Stone.

The reporter claimed via his personal Twitter account on Monday that Albion are continuing talks over finding a replacement for Darren Moore, who was sacked by the Black Country club on Saturday after the 1-1 draw against rock-bottom Ipswich.

West Brom face Swansea at The Hawthorns on Wednesday night and it is understood that it’s unlikely a new manager will be in place for that game.

OPINION

Wagner is one of the best managers out there for a team chasing promotion from the Championship, but Slavisa Jokanovic is surely the outstanding candidate and West Brom fans won’t be too concerned about the 47-year-old if they can hire the ex-Fulham boss instead. Jokanovic has earned promotion to the Premier League with both Watford and Fulham, winning play-off final against Aston Villa with the Cottagers last season. It did not go well for him in the top-flight after achieving promotion, but West Brom need to take each hurdle as they come, and getting out of the Championship is their short-term goal. West Brom are fourth at the moment and look good for a play-off finish, which is why it was surprising that Moore was sacked. However defeats against the likes of Leeds United, Sheffield United, Middlesbrough and Derby this term – all teams Albion could face in the play-offs – show that they might struggling to get promotion via Wembley.
