Former promotion-winning Huddersfield Town manager David Wagner is not interested in taking over as West Bromwich Albion boss, according to Sky Sports.

The broadcaster claims that the German does not wish to be considered for the vacancy at the Hawthorns, despite leaving Huddersfield, a side he got promoted from the second tier, by mutual consent in January.

It is understood that Wagner does not want a job in the Championship and therefore is content to wait until the summer before pursuing his next managerial post, the Telegraph having reported that he was among the candidates for the position.

The Baggies parted ways with Darren Moore on Saturday after his team drew with Championship basement dwellers Ipswich Town. West Brom are currently fourth in the second tier.

OPINION

This is a slight shame for West Brom, with the German seeming like one of the biggest names among the reported shortlist for the job. Certainly he would have been a more than capable replacement for Moore, having tasted promotion success with Huddersfield of course. He knows how to get out of the division and he can get his team playing good football in the process. However, it doesn’t appear as if he will be the man taking the reins at the Hawthorns. There are still a number of highly capable candidates who could seriously improve this Baggies team, with Slavisa Jokanovic appearing to be the man that the West Brom hierarchy are after. That would be a good appointment, but would it be better than getting Wagner? That’s debatable. Both have promotion-winning experience and are renowned for playing good football so there’s not much in it. Wagner has ruled himself out anyway, though, so the ball is now firmly in Jokanovic’s court.
