Chris Sutton has taken a swipe at Leicester after someone claimed that the Foxes are a “bigger club” than Celtic.

Brendan Rodgers quit Parkhead to take charge of the Premier League club this week, sparking a fierce cross-border debate about whether the move was a step up, or a step down for the Northern Irishman.

Sutton, speaking via his personal Twitter account, has hit back at claims that Leicester are bigger than Celtic, claiming that the King Power is tiny in comparison to Celtic Park.

“Bigger club,” said Sutton, followed by laughing emojis. “You could fit the whole King Power Stadium into the Lisbon Lions stand.”

OPINION

This whole argument about who is the “bigger club” is stupid. Yes, Celtic have more supporters than Leicester. You would expect that when in Scottish football there are only a handful of clubs that boast big attendances every other week. However there’s more to Rodgers’ decision to leave Celtic and take charge at Leicester than just the size of the stadium, otherwise managers would be rushing to take charge of Queen’s Park or Serie B side Bari, who play at 58,000-seater Stadio San Nicola. Rodgers’ decision is surely based on him being unhappy at Celtic after talk of a strained relationship between him and Peter Lawwell. He probably wanted to return to the Premier League, but couldn’t do that with a top-six club, so he has to join a club that can finish as the best of the rest before anyone else. It’s really that simple. He’s achieved all he can at Celtic.
