Chelsea put Dynamo Kiev to the sword on Thursday night, humiliating them at their home ground 5-0, with an 8-0 aggregate score making them the form team going into the quarter-final draw. And Chelsea fans were blown away by the player who doesn’t get much time in the Premier League, but who can’t stop scoring in Europe – Olivier Giroud. He scored the perfect hat-trick last night and is leading the way in the Golden Goal race on nine goals. By contrast, he’s only scored one goal in the Premier League and has only played six minutes in the last five games, with Gonzalo Higuain on loan from Juventus being preferred. It seems odd that they brought him in with Giroud available – surely a guaranteed 15-17 goal striker in the Premier League. However, the situation is unlikely to change between now and the end of the season, and he’s not going to get much more game time next season. That could mean that he tries to engineer a move in the summer – at 32 he’ll want to play regularly in the last few years of his career. That should put any team outside the top six on alert.
