Former Fulham manager Slavisa Jokanovic is a top candidate for the vacant West Brom job but there will be top level talks over all the options available to replace Darren Moore, according to Sky Sports journalist Rob Dorsett.

The reporter claims on his personal Twitter account that club chief Mark Jenkins is in China for meetings with the owners and that there will talks today (Sunday, 10 March) to discuss everyone who is currently in the running for the position at the Hawthorns.

It is stated that Jokanovic is a leading contender but that there will be talks held with others before a decision is made.

Opinion

Jokanovic is a proven manager in the second tier but that was when he had a Fulham side he had built and moulded himself. He would be inheriting a squad if he were to join West Brom and that could signal that the top brass are looking to the long term rather than trying to find someone who can guide them back to the Premier League this season. Jokanovic’s record in the top flight is nothing special and the fact that he was sacked by Fulham should make it clear that he would still be a gamble were he to join the Baggies this season and get them promoted via the play offs. There are a hundred other names out there who could throw their hat into the ring and so it is wise for the board to consider their options carefully. Of course there is the argument as to why Moore was let go in the first place, having done more than a decent job of putting the club in a position where they can challenge for an immediate return to the Premier League.
