Leeds Under-23s can clinch the PDL North title tonight if they beat Colchester, after Burnley went down 3-2 to Bristol City on Monday afternoon.

Carlos Corberan’s side will have an unassailable lead if they win away at Colchester, who are struggling one off the bottom of the PDL South group. They’ve already lost 17 of their 25 games this season.

The news of the Burnley defeat was announced on their official Twitter page this afternoon and it sets up a match for the title for Leeds on Monday night, with kick-off set for 7pm.

OPINION

Leeds Under-23s have been brilliant this season and it would be tough for anyone to say they don’t deserve the title after the season they’ve had. The holistic approach at the club and the synergy between the senior side and the Under-23s has played a big part in their triumphs this season. But it would be fair to say it’s worked the other way too, with players like Jack Clarke making the leap up to the senior side and thrilling fans at Elland Road. The future at Leeds is certainly bright and there’s now another big reason for Leeds fans to take an interest in tonight’s game. Winning the league is one. The other is that it could signal the return of Kemar Roofe, who is on the verge of a return for Leeds after being sidelined with ligament damage. Leeds play Millwall on Saturday and fans will be hoping that Roofe can play some part in the game. If he’s included in tonight’s squad, that will be a real possibility. And it could leave Colchester thinking they’re playing on an uneven playing field.
