Leeds have got to strengthen their squad next season – hopefully to try and cement their place in the Premier League – but there’s not a huge amount of money flowing around Elland Road and they’re going to have to take some gambles.

One player who is currently turning heads is Lawrence Shankland, the Ayr United striker who has put himself on the map with 31 goals in 32 games.

Shankland is out of contract in the summer and has already had a lot of clubs looking to sign him.

Sun transfer expert Alan Nixon claimed via his personal Twitter account that Swansea had a bid for the 23-year-old rejected in January.

And he has just reportedly rejected a move to Belgian side Royale Union Saint-Gillois.

Back in December, BBC pundit Tam McManus said he could see the striker ending up at Leeds or Swansea, “where £300,000 or £400,000 is nothing”.

That didn’t happen in the winter window but now Leeds could snap him up for free. His wages will be minuscule and that surely makes him a gamble worth taking.

If he flops then Leeds have risked hardly anything. If he thrives at Elland Road then Victor Orta will have snapped up the bargain of the year.
