Leeds United are interested in Uruguayan World Cup star Nahitan Nandez, according to Italian outlet TMW.

The central midfielder currently plays for Argentine side Boca Juniors who he joined on a £3million move in the summer of 2017.

He’s a regular for Uruguay and has made 20 appearances for his country now, including all five games in the World Cup that ended at the hands of France in the quarter-finals.

Leeds have some fierce competition though, with Cagliari, Sampdoria and Fiorentina all interested.

Spanish outlet AS claim that he has a release clause of £21.6million.

OPINION

Leeds are in for an exciting summer if they make it back into the Premier League, with the club undoubtedly looking to invest in new players. It’s probably fair to say that their squad is over-performing at the moment under Marcelo Bielsa. Nandez is an exciting new name to be linked with the Championship side. He put in a string of solid performances at the World Cup and the calibre of teams interested in him prove the sort of player he is. Leicester have also been credited with an interest in the player who Boca look like they’re going to cash in on this summer. He can play in the middle or on the right-hand side, as well as playing the deeper midfield position currently taken by Kalvin Phillips. This would obviously be one for Leeds if they got promoted – if their bid to get back in the top-flight doesn’t come off then Leeds will probably be looking to hold onto their existing players more than adding players like Nandez.
