Mateusz Klich claimed today (Thursday) that Leeds United January signing Mateusz Bogusz is going to be a better player than him.

Speaking at United’s media conference, as quoted by the Leeds Live blog (1.05pm), the Poland international raved about his 17-year-old countryman as he delivered a ringing endorsement of his future prospects.

Revealing that they are in regular contact, Klich said he tries to Bogusz and added: ‘I can’t give him advice because he’s only 17 and he’s probably going to be a better player than me.’

OPINION

Wow. Leeds fans were already getting pretty excited about Bogusz, the attacking midfielder who joined during the January window, following a series of impressive performances for the Under-23s. Klich’s claim about the teenager’s potential is likely to increase expectations only further. What is certain is that the youngster is bursting with promise and it is only a matter of time before he is named in the first-team squad. Bogusz was outstanding on Monday for the Under-23s in their 4-0 demolition of Charlton Athletic,  scoring one and providing the assists for the other three. His movement, awareness, touch and ability to see and execute a pass add up to a skill-set that suggests whoever is Leeds’ Polish scout or recruitment contact of Victor Orta knows his onions. Given that Klich himself has had the best season of his career and is now a key player for the Poland national team, Bogusz is surely going to be something special.
