Stan Collymore fired back at a Rangers fan after they took a dig at Aston Villa and he proceeded to highlight the history of the English club.

The outspoken pundit had asked his followers, via his personal Twitter account, whether anyone could think of a bigger accomplishment in English football than Manchester City potentially doing the quadruple this season.

This saw a Rangers fan claim that if anyone had heard of Aston Villa abroad then they could have gotten the level of investment like Man City in order to be potential quadruple winners.

Collymore pointed out the Villans were England’s fifth most successful team and that they had a star in the shirt due to their famous European Cup win in 1982, before casually asking the Gers fan about his club.

“Well we’re still England’s 5th most successful team ( City will overtake us this season), but it’s taken Ferguson’s miracle 26 years + 2 clubs that have spent several billion to overtake us. 3 remarkable and unprecedented events in English football. Oh, and we have a star, You?” asked Collymore.

OPINION

Collymore made a Rangers fan really regret his dig at the Villans and he won’t be making that mistake again. The Gers supporter was clearly just trying to have a bit of banter with the pundit but it backfired. Aston Villa may be in the Championship currently but history proves they are one of the big clubs in England. The Villans have an illustrious history that shouldn’t be easily forgotten or under minded. As for how the Villans are currently faring, they could soon be adding a positive note to their long history. Dean Smith’s side have been in tremendous form lately in order to give them an outside chance of making the play-offs, after previously looking like they were doomed to miss out. While it’s not a famous night in Europe, if Smith is able to get his side promoted to the Premier League after so many wrote his side off, it will be an accomplishment worth celebrating.
