Former Liverpool player Phil Babb thinks that Leeds will win automatic promotion back to the Premier League this season.

Talking on the latest episode of the Debate podcast on Sky Sports, Babb said it was between Norwich and Leeds for the title, with Sheffield United having to take on the lottery of the play-offs.

Babb and co-pundit Tim Sherwood were talking about the upcoming Leeds clash with Sheffield United that could go a long way towards defining the top two.

“It’s a huge game against Sheffield United and if Leeds do that then they’ll extend the gap,” Babb said.

“For me it’s between Norwich and Leeds for the title. Sheffield United will be knocking on the door but these two teams are too good.

“You mentioned there are some big teams not even in the race for the play-offs, it’s one of the most difficult leagues to get out of, but one of the most entertaining.”

OPINION

Leeds fans will love this but it won’t take any of the pressure of the fans on Saturday. Elland Road will be electric and the fans could play a big part in Leeds getting the three points that could finally shake off the plucky Sheffield United. If they win there’s a five-point gap between Leeds and Chris Wilder’s side in third, and that could be too much for them to haul back. Then it will be a battle for the title between Leeds and Norwich, with Babb saying these are the two best teams in the league. It would be the cherry on top to lift the trophy at the end of a brilliant season for Leeds but the fans won’t care too much about what happens as long as they finish in the top two. And they would like that to be sorted before the last game of the season. Leeds can ensure that by winning every game between now and the end of the campaign. Simple.
