The Manchester United fanbase will be walking on air today after the extraordinary comeback in Paris that will go down in the annals of the club’s feted history. Most of the players were lauded as heroes by supporters on social media. But, not all. One of those getting it in the neck from a significant section of the fanbase is Ashley Young. The veteran full-back played 87 minutes of the Parc des Princes classic at right-back before making way for Mason Greenwood ahead of the stunningly dramatic denouement. His commitment to the cause in a more advanced role than where he has spent the last few seasons could surely not be faulted, but many of the faithful were critical of how he and Eric Bailly on the right side of the defence could not contain Paris Saint-Germain, especially in the first half and before the Ivorian’s substitution after 36 minutes. Young stayed on the pitch for another 51 minutes and actually did okay, but many supporters believe he is “finished” and “does not deserve to wear the jersey”.
