OPINION

Celtic are in the running for both the Scottish Premiership and the Scottish Cup, so there is no doubt that their fans are on cloud nine right now.

However they did not look fantastic after they only managed to muster up a last gasp 1-0 win over Dundee on Sunday. Nevertheless, a win is still a win, and it is three more points than they had.

Despite the result, there was one player who stood out like a sore thumb – and that player is full-back Jeremy Toljan. He was playing at right-back, but with the way he performed, he might as well not have been on the pitch.

The 24-year-old was caught out of position numerous times, and he hardly threatened up front. If he is making a case for a regular first team place, this certainly is not the way to go about it, is it?

He is currently on loan from Borussia Dortmund until the end of the season, but at this rate, many Celtic fans will be ecstatic when he leaves. The defender has not brought anything different to the team that they already had, and it is hardly like he is full of fresh ideas.

Mikael Lustig is a much better option in that position at the moment, but he had to fill in at centre-back for this match. Fingers crossed that Neil Lennon reverts him back to his natural position after the international break, as this game was the final straw.

Either way, Celtic fans are not going to be too disappointed when Toljan does finally depart Parkhead, as his impact has been minimal and hardly eye catching.

Why the club signed him in the first place remains to be seen, but it was wise for them to get in cover for the full-back position – but they could have found somebody a lot better than Toljan.
