Steve Bull has gushed about the impact Wolves player Romain Saiss has made on the team in the last few games.

With Ryan Bennett absent for last Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea due to a suspension, manager Nuno Espirito Santo shifted Saiss to the defence in his place, a move which the club legend described as “outstanding”.

He says that after a lot of players pen a new contract with their clubs, their form starts to decline – but the same does not go for the 28-year-old, who recently extended his stay at Molineux until 2021.

“Romain Saiss has been outstanding for the past two games against Chelsea and Cardiff,” he said in his Express and Star column.

“He’s been unbelievable recently – some players go off the boil when they’ve signed a new contract but he’s been the opposite. It has spurred him on.”

OPINION

Bull could not be more spot on in his verdict of Saiss here. He was drafted into the defence in the absence of Bennett on Sunday, and many fans were no doubt fearing the worst after the mistakes he made while playing in that position a couple of times this term. However, he proved any doubters he may have had wrong, as he hardly put a foot wrong against the Blues. He kept them at bay for the majority of the match, and this is something that is hugely commendable. That surely puts him in the driving seat to start against Manchester United in the FA Cup on Saturday, right? Bennett is due to return, and that no doubt means that Saiss will be pushed out once again. After all the impact he has made recently, this would be pretty unfair on him wouldn’t it? Either way, there is no denying how excellent he has been lately.
