Everton made a massive dent in Liverpool’s quest for the Premier League title this season after forcing a 0-0 draw with them on Sunday.

One Toffees player who has been primarily used as an impact substitute at this stage of the season was given the chance to shine in his Merseyside derby, and it is safe to say that he did not disappoint.

That player is Bernard, who replaced his fellow countryman Richarlison in the starting line up at Goodison Park – and one man who should be worried is Theo Walcott.

Richarlison eventually replaced the woeful winger in the second half, a time when boss Marco Silva may have just stumbled upon his most effective front three to date.

With Bernard, Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin up front, Everton seemed to have a lot more energy and influence on the game – and if this has told us anything, it is that Bernard must replace Walcott in the starting XI permanently.

The 26-year-old gave Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold a huge run for his money in the opening stages of the clash, dancing his way past the defender on numerous occasions and getting the better of him during their one-to-one duels.

He livened up a lot more when Richarlison came on, something which indicates that Walcott’s influence is beginning to hang on a thread, and it is no doubt only matter of time for Silva to make the change that could really see a turnaround in fortunes for his team.

Bernard turning heads on Sunday definitely makes Silva’s job that little bit easier, so he must replace the ineffective Walcott for the flyer as soon as possible.

The team have been crying out for someone like Bernard to come in and make a difference, and now that he has done exactly that, it is obvious what needs to be done.

Over to you, Silva.
