OPINION
Aston Villa could play against DC United in a pre-season friendly in the summer, which has understandably got many fans excited on Twitter because now they have a great excuse to go on holiday to the USA. Villa fans are longing for the days when they can return to the big-time, and they will certainly feel like they are still a big club if they can bag a friendly against a team in the MLS. While the US league is not the strongest, only Premier League teams ever seem to get the chance to play against them, which is why it’s a nice surprise for fans to see Washington Post journalist Steven Goff report that DC United – featuring Wayne Rooney – could host Aston Villa in the summer. It is understood that Monaco were being sounded out, but now it’s between Villa and Bordeaux. Weirdly it’s three teams that Thierry Henry was heavily linked with last year. He ended up taking charge at Monaco after being linked with Villa Park and Bordeaux.
D.C. United was aiming to host Monaco in a summer friendly, but since those talks fizzled, Aston Villa and Bordeaux, among others, are now in the mix. #dcu #mls
