COMMENTARY

Usually when a player puts in a top quality performance the fans are left lapping it up but unfortunately for Arsenal supporters, Aaron Ramsey’s brilliant first 45 minutes against Rennes were a reminder of what they are losing this summer. The Welsh international ran the show from the first minute and only took another four before setting up the opening goal at the Emirates on Thursday evening. It is games like this which make the decision to let him go – on a free transfer, no less – look more and more like a massive mistake. Losing him will be tough to take for the Gunners faithful but replacing him is a whole other kettle of fish and the Arsenal transfer team have got a mammoth task on their hands. The way in which he finds and/or creates space with his passing and movement is a special thing among midfielders and only the best in the business can do what he does. It would not be so sad if there was a hefty transfer fee coming in over the summer which could be reinvested. Instead, there will not be a penny heading to north London. No wonder the fans are gutted.
