Celtic defender Kristoffer Ajer is set to be assessed by Norway’s medical team after picking up a head injury in action against Dundee, according to the Daily Record

The newspaper claim that the 6’5″(source: Transfermarkt) colossus, who was forced off on Sunday afternoon with 17 minutes left to play, is a doubt for his country’s upcoming European qualifiers and will be tested while on international duty to see whether he can play.

The 20-year-old has been a mainstay in the Hoops side this season, with just a hamstring injury back in October the only major injury problem suffered.

Opinion

If there is any doubt of Ajer’s ability to play he must be withdrawn from international duty, as disappointing as that might be. Head injuries are not simple things and every precaution has got to be taken as a result. You can imagine that manager Neil Lennon would quite like the centre back to remain in Glasgow rather than playing for his country, with the giant defender having been a regular in the starting XI. Losing him would mean a reshuffle at the back and with hopes of a domestic treble still on the cards, the less changes that have to be made the better. So long as nothing happens over the international break, this head injury should not stop him from featuring in the Old Firm clash versus Rangers – a showdown which will surely determine whether there is still a title race in Scotland. It is not the ideal time to have such an important fixture but that is something both sides will have to deal with.
