Celtic and Rangers are both primed to pounce on the contract status of Motherwell winger Jake Hastie as he heads towards the end of his deal at the Old Firm’s Premiership rivals, according to the Scottish Sun.

The newspaper claim on their website that the 19-year-old is yet to pen a new deal with his current club, with a three year offer on the table to remain at Fir Park, and that the uncertainty over his future is drawing plenty of admirers from both Scotland and England.

It is stated that both Glasgow sides are primed to pounce for the youngster, who has been a regular for Motherwell in the second half of the season , scoring four goals since returning from a loan spell at Alloa Athletic.

Good move for Celtic/Rangers?

Both sides are always on the lookout for the top young talents in Scotland and Hastie’s recent rise in the top flight seems to have piqued their interest – and for good reason.

He might not have a lot of game time under his belt yet but the potential is clearly there and he will only improve as the years go on.

It is difficult to judge whether either side would be able to offer him much first team football next season – a lot of that will depend on who stays and who goes at Parkhead and Ibrox – but there is no doubting that he would be able to make an impact if required.

Likely to happen?

It all comes down to if Motherwell can get him to pen a new deal or not.

If he does, then do not expect him to leave this summer, for no side is going to splash the cash for a player who is tied to a brand new deal and without much experience.

If he does not, then it could all come down to the player’s preference and with English sides in the hunt, Rangers and Celtic face a battle to convince him to remain north of the border.
