Arsene Wenger has hailed Tottenham’s youth system, comparing their current crop of players to Manchester United’s legendary Class of ’92.

The former Arsenal manager made the comments after collecting a lifetime achievement accolade at Laureus Sports Awards.

As quoted by Football.London, he said: “Tottenham have a good, young generation. They have a core of young players such as [Harry] Winks, [Harry] Kane, Dele Alli and [Eric] Dier like we had at Arsenal.

“Man United had it too, with their [Ryan] Giggs, [Paul] Scholes, [David] Beckham and [Nicky] Butt generation, but now they [Tottenham] have established a good, basic platform to develop from.

“Tottenham’s players are maturing too so it will be interesting to see how they develop.”

OPINION

Spurs fans will take great delight in here there long term bitter rival lavishing such high praise on their young side, but you have to say that it’s entirely justified. The club, whether it’s through policy or necessity, have established a real reputation for bringing young talent through, and they are reaping the benefits now, with the likes of Harry Kane and Harry Winks excelling. Even Dele Alli and Eric Dier, neither of whom were academy graduates, have come into the side at such a young age that they have helped to create a recognisable philosophy that is still being spread throughout the youth team ranks. With Oliver Skipp and Kyle Walker-Peters both making strides towards the first team this season, and with young players like Troy Parrot and Jack Roles on the cusp of first team breakthroughs, it’s easy to foresee a situation in which Spurs’ stellar record on youth continues for years to come.
