David Weir has claimed that the Celtic job is currently a “bigger” role than the Leicester job with Brendan Rodgers linked with becoming the next manager at the King Power.

Leicester sacked Claude Puel last week and speculation has been rife about Rodgers returning to the Premier League to take charge of the East Midlands club.

Former Rangers star Weir has admitted that he can see why managers would want to manage in the Premier League, but he also believes that Celtic have a big enough draw of their own.

“I think the Celtic job’s a bigger job than the Leicester job at this present time,” said Weir, as quoted by BBC Sport.

“But I think Leicester’s an attractive job because it’s in the Premier League. The Premier League’s obviously a fantastic league and where, I think, most players and managers want to be. I don’t think there’s any doubt about that.

“But for Brendan Rodgers to be at Celtic, which is an unbelievable football club playing in Europe year in, year out, winning trophies, there’s a massive attraction associated with that as well.”

OPINION

While the Celtic job might win you more silverware and basically guarantee the chance to manage in Europe every season, the finances that are likely to be on offer south of the border might be too hard for Rodgers to turn down. The Bhoys are also unlikely to turn their heads at what could be a massive compensation offer for Rodgers, who has won every single piece of domestic silverware since arriving at Parkhead in 2016. Rodgers is proven south of the border having almost led Liverpool to their first ever Premier League win while also helping establish Swansea as a top-flight club. It is completely understandable as to why Leicester would want the Northern Irishman and Celtic are bound to fight as hard as they can to keep him amid interest from the King Power. Will he quit Celtic Park? He might want to see out this season first and tie up the triple treble, but after that, there could be serious doubt about his future in Glasgow.
