Tottenham are reportedly looking into boosting their number of homegrown players in the summer transfer window.

The Mirror claims that Spurs have a number of options that they could consider before the end of the season, with James Maddison, Jarrod Bowen, David Brooks and Jack Clarke among those potentially on Mauricio Pochettino’s list.

However one name that has not cropped up yet that should definitely be considered by Tottenham is Maddison’s Leicester team-mate Harvey Barnes.

The 21-year-old spent the first half of the season at West Brom in the Championship, where he was involved in 17 goals in 28 appearances across all competitions, scoring nine and supplying eight assists.

Leicester took the decision to recall Barnes last month and although the Foxes have endured some poor results and pressure is piling on Claude Puel, Barnes has been a shining light and has transferred his form from the Championship over to the Premier League almost seamlessly.

The Burnley-born attacker could be a perfect addition to Tottenham’s first team as he ticks a lot of boxes when you compare him to players that Spurs are already said to be looking at.

He is young, an England Under-21 international, in great form, he can score, he can create and he is now playing regular Premier League football.

Barnes is also extremely versatile.

The ex-West Brom loanee can use both feet so he can play on both wings, but he can also come inside and play behind a striker.

Tottenham could definitely do a lot worse than Barnes and there is a chance that he could be a lot cheaper than someone like James Maddison, who only joined Leicester in the summer.

Daniel Levy could hit the jackpot if he managed to negotiate a deal for Barnes this summer.

Not only would the player’s value skyrocket as soon as he joins Tottenham, but he would also be a star for many years to come and maybe, just maybe, help Pochettino win his first piece of silverware in North London.
