Tottenham and Newcastle United are among a clutch of clubs in the hunt to sign Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper claims that Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool are also interested in the 26-year-old England international, who has made just two appearances in all competitions this season since suffering a serious shoulder injury in the Europa League qualifier against Aberdeen in July.

Though Pope is now fully fit, he has dropped down the pecking order at Turf Moor behind Tom Heaton and Joe Hart.

It is understood that the 6ft 3 (transfermarkt) colossus is open to a move in the summer transfer window.

Good move for Tottenham?

Mauricio Pochettino needs to add homegrown talent to his squad in the summer and he might also need another goalkeeper with Michel Vorm’s contract expiring at the end of the campaign.

Pochettino likes to have three senior goalkeepers, so Pope would be a very good addition to join Hugo Lloris and Paulo Gazzaniga.

He is young, is a senior England international and has been very impressive in his appearances for Burnley.

The 26-year-old is only out of the picture at the moment because his long-term injury bumped Heaton and Hart up in Sean Dyche’s estimations.

Spurs could definitely do a lot worse than Pope.

Likely to happen?

It seems that a lot of club are interested in signing Pope and if he is open to quitting Burnley because of his lack-time, he’s unlikely to want to move to a club where he will be second or third choice again.

At Spurs he would more than likely be a third choice behind Lloris and Gazzaniga, while Newcastle could say he’s a candidate for the No 1 jersey considering Martin Dubravka’s drop in form.

There is some time to go before the transfer window opens and a lot could happen between now and then.
