Who would have thought Jonny Hayes would be Celtic’s best player in their 1-0 win against Kilmarnock? That’s the view of most Celtic fans, who have heaped praise on the former Aberdeen winger for his display at left-back on the plastic pitch at Rugby Park. It’s definitely a warranted opinion anyway because none of Brendan Rodgers’ squad really stood out against Killie. The defence had little to do after the break, the midfield failed to create any clear cut opportunities and the strikers failed to deliver. Hayes was a menace for the Kilmarnock defence with his marauding runs down the left-flank. It left Celtic open at the back but he showed a lot of pace to get back and defend, especially against Chris Burke, who had a good game for the hosts. Hayes’ job was made harder by the fact that he is not a defender, but he did a decent job and he might be able to keep Emilio Izaguirre out of the side in future games where Kieran Tierney is unavailable.
