It would be fair to say that Moussa Sissoko has taken a fair amount of stick in his time at Tottenham.

The 55 cap French international came in for plenty of criticism during the early days of his career in north London, and for good reason.

Rarely has a player embodied the well-worn cliched image of a headless chicken as formidably as he did in the months following his big money deadline day move from Newcastle United in 2016.

For all the world it looked as if the midfielder would go down as one of the club’s most disappointing flops, but through circumstance, Sissoko has somehow managed to right himself this season, and could prove to be a key figure in Spurs’ outside shot at a title challenge.

With midfield injuries galore, the 29-year-old has been called upon to full a gaping void in the centre often park, and he has, to his credit, done so admirably, as he showed again against Leicester City on Sunday afternoon.

Operating predominantly from a right hand berth, Sissoko looked like the player who Spurs were convinced the nabbed from the Magpies in the aftermath of the 2016 European Championship.

His running and raw physicality has never been in question, but he has refined his game to include a measured, economical side that is more in keeping with the sharp, intelligent game Mauricio Pochettino is so keen on.

Against the Foxes, Sissoko was everywhere, dropping into space and providing the extra man time and time again. Combined with his terrifying ability to charge at defences, he has transformed himself into a key Spurs figure.
