After years of domination in Scotland Celtic are finally beginning to feel the pressure from the likes of Rangers at the top of the Premiership – but what would happen if the Old Firm rivals were battling it out south of the border?

With hugely impressive records in Glasgow there has always been a conversation about what would happen were they both to join the English elite and battle it out in the Premier League – a hypothetical conversation for now.

The Scottish Sun claim that both the Hoops and the Gers have been looking to make a move to battle against the big boys of the UK in the past without much support from their prospective rivals – and Ibrox icon Lorenzo Amoruso believes it could be because Celtic would turn themselves into title contenders within two years.

Making his prediction about the ‘crazy’ amount of amount of money the Hoops could make to transform their side into Premier League champions, he told the Scottish Sun: “When I was at Rangers I was hoping they would allow both Rangers and Celtic to move to the English Premier League. But the teams in England fighting for European places always fought against it.

“Everyone knows they would both be incredibly successful because they have an incredible number of fans. Celtic would be fighting for the English Premier League title within two or three years because the money they would bring in from merchandise would be absolutely crazy. Rangers too.

“When I was at Rangers, I had a following of thousands and thousands of fans. In my opinion, both clubs have an unbelievable untapped potential.”

While there might be a slight amount of bias from those at Ibrox, there is little doubt that many of the fans will be left in hysterics from reading Amoruso’s claims and it is understandable as to why there would be big doubts over their potential success in England.

Look at the likes of Scott Sinclair, Dedryck Boyata and Oliver Burke – all players with top flight experience who have failed to make the grade before heading up to Parkhead.

The truth is Celtic would likely struggle to survive in the Premier League and even if they were able to stave off relegation, they would be nowhere near those at the top of the table.

Rangers fans will be laughing their socks off at his suggestion either side could be title challengers in England – after all, they are not even miles clear at the top of the Scottish top flight.
