Rangers have called for an urgent review into the Scottish Football Association’s disciplinary system after Allan McGregor’s ban appeal was rejected.

The Gers shot-stopper failed in a bid to overturn his two game suspension following a studs-up challenge on Aberdeen’s Lewis Ferguson, and the Ibrox outfit are clearly less than impressed with the verdict as they go to desperate measures to try and instigate change at the top.

In a statement to The Scottish Sun, they said: “Rangers has no option other than to accept this decision. However, it is abundantly clear questions about the current disciplinary system, which we believe is flawed, must be posed.

“Rangers has been in dialogue with the Scottish FA on this topic for some time and would argue that the system is now thoroughly reviewed as a matter of extreme urgency.”

OPINION

Well this is interesting, isn’t it? It’s become evident this season that there are real problems with the current disciplinary system. The people at the SFA making retrospective decisions on incidents have made a number of baffling decisions this campaign and there has been much outcry against multiple injustices. For Rangers, seeing Alan Power go unpunished for booting Ryan Jack in the face and then finding out that McGregor’s appeal was rejected was obviously a step too far. It’s hard to blame them, too, because there are clearly problems with the current system. Just putting aside the McGregor incident, the fact that you can get away with kicking somebody full in the face with your studs up simply beggars belief. These are just two of the strange decisions made by the SFA this term, so Rangers appear to be well within their rights to ask for a review as a matter of urgency.
